All Along...

You painted over the cracks
So you could hide down deep
Invited me to your place
So I could watch you sleep
But you were lying to me
All along

Read my future today
But it must be wrong
Nothing but happiness coming my way
on and on and on and on and on and on, yeah
But they were lying to me
All along

Is this what we've become
And is it still love
This what we've become
And is it still enough

You painted over the cracks
So you could hide down deep
Invited me to your place
So I could watch you sleep

But you were lying to me
All along

Read my future today
But it must be wrong
Nothing but happiness coming my way
on and on and on and on and on and on, yeah
But they were lying to me
All along

Is this what we've become
And is it still love
This what we've become
And is it still enough

You saw the sun in my smile
You saw the rain in my face
You saw the tears in my eyes baby
When you came over to my place
But I was lying to you
All along

Button up your coat 'cause it's gonna get colder
Hold your breath and get ready for a swim
Button up your coat 'cause it's gonna get colder
Hold your breath and jump right into this...
...what we've become
And is it still love
This what we've become
And is it still enough

"The story behind this song is incredibly personal. I only hope people listening to it find something to relate to, and then the pain behind it will be for a good cause. One interesting note: I purposefully allude to my own work in the bridge of this song, pulling a melody line from "Sometimes Sun Sometimes Rain" (which appears on both The Floating World and Out of the Wilderness albums). The reasons for this allusion are myriad; it is appropriate and direct, but also tongue-in-cheek."
